Weekly Update 9.24.18

Good Evening Westfield Big Red Band Family,

I hope that everyone has enjoyed their sleepy Sunday post McAllen trip.  We completed a successful trip safe and sound.  Everyone should be proud and we have lots of opportunity to grow from traveling to a marching contest out of Houston – lots to grow from as people and as performers.

The band earned 11th place out of the 28 bands present at the Bands of America McAllen Regional.  We were one band away from making finals.  It is the little things, and the things we tend to ignore (even things such as keeping facilities clean), that add up to eventually give us the breakthrough that we want for our band.  Attendance, tardiness, and the communication of both has improved tremendously…let’s continue to grow and be consistent; we are sure you noticed that with this improvement, our performances have gotten better and we have been able to do things with PRESENCE on the rehearsal field.

The next thing we need to work on is being proactive and set for rehearsals in advance so we all start together.  During rehearsals, the downtime adds up…moving from place to place, whether it is set to set or to get water and back to specified location.  We assure you that if we improve our intent to move faster, be certain of what is going on by listening and knowing, and keep up with our show such as counts, visuals, music (pass-offs), we will peak to where we want to be.

The week ahead includes learning new drill and adjusting the show according to commentary and a professional critique meeting Mr. Norman and Harrington attended with the BOA judges.  Of course we have a football game on Friday vs Spring.

YOU HAVE A FREE WEEKEND AHEAD – ON SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 29, WE WILL NOT HAVE A MARCHING CONTEST.  We were on the waiting list for the Friendswood Marching Contest and did not receive a performing spot as no band pulled out.  So enjoy the weekend because the following Saturday: BOA Conroe on October 6.

For your assignment to prove that you read this update, grab a piece of paper and pencil…write down what you learned from our experience to McAllen and what you observed watching finals at BOA McAllen.  We will collect these in each class.  Keep it simple, we just want to know what you thought and write it neatly.

Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns…we are updating grades, so keep calm and carry on. : )
