We are pleased and excited to announce the addition of Mr. William Skembos to the position of Assistant Director of Bands at Westfield High School! Mr. Skembos is a recent graduate of Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas, where he served as a graduate teaching assistant. While serving as a graduate teaching assistant, he taught saxophone and clarinet lessons and masterclasses privately. Prior to beginning studies at Sam Houston State University, he was the head band director at the Basic Academy for International Studies in Henderson, Nevada, where he instructed all of the curricular and extracurricular bands. Preceding his six years as director of bands, he attended Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana where he graduated with his Bachelor of Science in Music Education in 2010. Mr. Skembos has held leadership positions with the Southern Nevada Band Association, Nevada Music Educators Association, and the National Association for Music Education-Ball State Chapter. Additionally, he is a regular volunteer at Conn-Selmer Institute and was inducted in the Conn-Selmer Institute Hall of Fame in 2015. Mr. Skembos was also named in the School Band and Orchestra Magazine’s “50 Directors Who Make a Difference” for the state of Nevada in 2015.
We are very excited to have Mr. Skembos on board with us as he brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to help our students succeed in our future efforts. Mr. Skembos will be conducting the Symphonic band as well as assisting with the Big Red Band, Wind Ensemble, and Concert Band.
Mr. Skembos will be available for students and parents to meet with him on Wednesday, June 20th between 11am and 4pm as we continue our Summer cleaning efforts and our open band hall sessions!
